Morning!  I just woke up a short while ago and I’m itching to get back on the road.   I drove about 750 miles yesterday so needless to say I was one tired pup when I settled in last night.  My bed was super comfy but I missed my snuggle buddy… but I did fall asleep talking to him on Skype last night.  I only have a little over 400 miles to go today til I get to the Lake Geneva area of Wisconsin.  I’m hoping to get there with enough daylight left to do some exploring.  The weather is looking like it will be rainy but hopefully it will let up enough to get a good hike in.

Not much to say for now, but I should tell you that one of my favorite things about the drive yesterday was seeing so many Canadian geese making their way back to this part of the world.  I saw literally hundreds of them, perched along the edges of waterways still framed in ice that are yielding to the spring thaw.  They were so beautiful and it brought to mind one of my favorite poems by Mary Oliver (who, incidentally, was born not too far from where I am now typing these words):

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting–
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
